Ways Toxic Relationships Harm Your Health

Have you ever seen the movie Supersize Me?

The one where Morgan Spurlock eats McDonalds for 30 days, gains a bunch of weight, and a host of physical and psychological issues?

It’s pretty scary.

Did you know that toxic relationships and environments can have similar detrimental effects?

Things like:

A higher risk of obesity, diabetes and stroke
Lower productivity at work
Depression and anxiety
Chronic headaches
Insomnia
Stomach and digestion problems
Higher risk of physical inactivity and heart problems

In fact, according to a 2000 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, women who reported moderate to severe marital strain were 2.9 times more likely to need heart surgery, suffer heart attacks or die of heart disease than women without marital stress.

A 2003 article in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that single people tend to have better mental health than those who remain in a tumultuous relationship.

I’d love to know: has a toxic relationship ever affected your health?

That’s all for today. Have a fantastic week!
