1 Simple Trick for Identifying Clutter

I have a confession to make: I love clutter clearing.

There’s something about the act of freeing my physical and mental space of extra stuff that gives me a feeling of … lightness, freedom and joy. When I let go of things from my physical and emotional space, it’s like a weight has been lifted off of me.

I do clutter clearing at varying times throughout the year. It helps me keep my things in balance and make way for new things to come into my life.

In the past it was difficult for me to let go of certain things. I would avoid it or dread it. Often, it was easier to pretend the clutter wasn’t there than actually face it. I eventually found that it only grew and grew, though, and eventually I needed to deal with it. When I finally faced the clutter of my life, and took it slowly, I found immense relief. I also discovered courage, strength and growth.

As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to let go of any unwanted or unnecessary things.

And that begins with identifying it.

If this is difficult for you, don’t panic. I have 1 simple trick for identifying clutter for you to use immediately, and it’s the affirmation in the picture above. If that doesn’t work, here are 2 more:

1. Sit in a room and close your eyes. Instinctively, think of what needs to go. Don’t second-guess yourself. Your gut response is often right-on.

2. Grab a pen, some paper and set a timer for 3 minutes. At the top of the page, write: I need to let go of … and fill in the blank. Once you have one item, do it again. I need to let go of … Keep doing this until the timer goes off.

Now that you have some ideas to begin identifying the clutter in your life, I want to ask you: what is cluttering your life?

I have always done this with people in my life, but have never thought to evaluate all aspects of my life when looking for clutter. This is definitely something I am looking forward to trying!
