How do you feel about public speaking?
Up until a year ago, I didn’t like public speaking. Actually, that’s an understatement; I abhorred it.
Fast forward to today: I love public speaking.
I’ve given three prepared speeches in the past three months and each one has brought me immense joy. I never thought I’d see the day that I could stomach giving a speech in public, let alone call it a joy.
What changed?
The truth is, there isn’t anything special about me. I wasn’t born with charisma or a natural public speaking ability. I discovered a wonderful organization called Toastmasters and it’s helped me spread my wings and fly. Before Toastmasters, it was excruciating to speak in front of others. I spent much of my life not feeling worthy of the attention of an audience. But by listening and learning and facing my fears, I’ve discovered the beauty of public speaking.
If you have a fear of public speaking and are ready to conquer it once and for all, go for it. You can do it. I encourage you to listen to my recent radio show where I discuss Toastmasters and a handful of other secrets that helped me overcome a once-paralyzing fear.
